Incorporating Balance in Your Home: Feng Shui

Do you need more balance and organization in your life?  Start by introducing elements of Feng Shui into your home.  Feng Shui is the Chinese philosophy of balancing the good and bad (Yin & Yang).  Living in a space that is randomly organized, results in loss of control and stress.  By incorporating the ideas of Feng Shui, it shows us how are spaces can be designed to achieve harmony and balance.

It all starts at your front door.  Paint your door an inviting color!

  • Clear out the clutter at your front door.  Do not have objects blocking the way into your home...this is an automatic stresser. Use baskets and storage!  You want to achieve positive Chi when you enter your home.  Chi means the energy you feel, which is forever changing and is a reflection of the five key elements - water, fire, wood, earth, and metal.
  • Incorporate plants into your home.  It will add some life to your space, as well as aesthestic appeal.
  • Another way to incorporate positive Chi, is to add water elements throughout your home.  Listening and seeing the slowly flowing water is very calming and soothing.
  • Add candles throughout your home, which incorporates the element of fire.  If you have young children, and are relunctant to use candles, look for a battery operated candle...they have the look of a real candle.
  • Take yoga or a meditation class.
  • Add mirrors throughout your home.  This is a great interior design tip to largen a space, but it also can shift the flow of energy.  They call mirrors the aspirin of Feng Shui, providing a refreshening and calmness to your life.
